Dear Church Family,

My name is Janet Welch. For those you that do not know me I am a Kindergarten teacher at Carver Elementary. We are located a few blocks behind the Siegel Center on W Leigh St. Our students are residents of one of the poorest housing projects in the state, Gilpin Court.

We have a wonderful mentoring opportunity available. Housed in our school is an agency called, The Carver Promise http://www.thecarverpromise.org/. Each year they match each student from 1st- 5th grade with a mentor. Mentors come in once a week for one hour to work with the student and just be a friend to them. Many of our students come from broken homes and almost all are living in poverty.

Sadly, in some cases the mentor is the only adult that has ever shown the child kindness or care of any kind. I would love for members of our church to be involved in this program.
