What happens in our worship service?
We believe that the church gather to be both shaped by the gospel story and proclaim the gospel message in both word and deed.
The Gospel Story
The bible is one story that spans from Genesis to Revelation. In it, we read that God is the Creator of the universe and the sustainer of life, who by grace created humanity for a relationship with Himself (Genesis 1&2). We also read that though God gave us life, humanity rebelled against Him and sought to play God and exercise our own authority in our live (Genesis 3).
This rebellion broke humanity’s relationship with God. It drove a relational wedge between people and God, and introduced sin and death to world. But God, in his great love for humanity, determined to rescue humanity from itself (chronicled throughout the bible). He promised to send a Deliverer to rescue humanity from the wrath of God that we justly deserved (Genesis 3:15; Galatians 3:15).
We discover as we approach the New Testament that this Deliverer was God’s only Son (John 3:16), Jesus, who secured our rescue from the wrath of God through his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead (1 Corinthians 15). At the cross Jesus purchased for Himself a new humanity, a new people called the church. Now, through the work of Jesus everyone has access to the family of God through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus.
So the church is a community of people that have been transformed by the gospel story. We are a people that live by grace as God intended, with love for God and love for neighbors (Acts 2 & 4). The church is a foretaste of God’s rule that will come in fullness when Jesus returns and makes all things new (Revelation 21).
We Celebrate The Gospel Story
It is this “good news” that we celebrate as we gather together as the church. We do this as we read the bible corporately, confess our sins, pray together, hear the gospel preached, and partake of communion. We pray that you would consider joining us this Sunday.
