Aletheia Richmond finds its roots in the passions and dreams of Dave and Aaron Proffitt, who in 2001 began a church in Harrisonburg, VA hoping to reach a generation with the message of Christ. This vision continued with Aletheia in Richmond (2006). Under Dave's leadership, a small group of recent college graduates began reaching out to the campus of VCU and the surrounding community. Through love, hospitality, and sharing the message of Christ, they sought to build a community relationally gathered around Biblical truth.
It wasn't too long before they began a campus organization to better reach the students of VCU. The organization has provided a way to mobilize students, teaching them to find truth in the Bible and live it out in their daily lives. In the summer of 2007, Dave handed the reigns over to Josh Soto as Aletheia began meeting on Sunday nights. A biblical community emerged, made up of students, young professionals, and families. In the spring of 2009, with a passion to reach the city, Aletheia Richmond moved to Sunday mornings, meeting in the Randolph community adjacent to the campus of VCU. Aletheia continues to grow, but remains committed to being a relevant community that gather together to encounter God, serve one another, and reach out to others with the message of Christ.
